Where the openings are

Packing and fulfilment work in the UAE clusters around three areas: the free zones near Jebel Ali, the fulfilment centres in Dubai South, and the industrial belt in Sharjah. Between them they account for the large majority of entry level warehouse hiring in the country.

Demand follows retail cycles. Hiring rises sharply in the ten weeks before Ramadan and again ahead of the shopping festivals, then flattens through the summer. If you are timing an application, aim for the run-up rather than the quiet months.

Who is hiring

The large employers are fulfilment operators and food distributors. Recruitment agencies handle a lot of the volume, but they should never charge you a fee for placement into a role in the UAE. If an agency asks for money up front, that is the point to walk away.

  • Fulfilment centres in Dubai South and Jebel Ali
  • Third party logistics operators across Sharjah
  • Food and pharmaceutical distributors in Dubai Investment Park
  • Supermarket distribution centres

What the work pays

Entry level packing roles run from AED 1,500 to AED 2,500 per month for basic pay. Most contracts add accommodation and transport, either directly or as an allowance. Overtime is where the real difference shows up: at the statutory rate it can add a quarter to a third on top of base pay during peak season.

There is no income tax on salary in the UAE, so the headline number is close to what reaches your account. End of service gratuity accrues at twenty one days of basic pay for each year worked.

Reading the offer properly

Look at three things before signing. First, whether accommodation and transport are provided or paid as an allowance, because an allowance that does not cover actual rent is a pay cut in disguise. Second, the overtime rate written into the contract rather than what the recruiter said. Third, who pays for the visa, the medical and the return ticket. All three should be the employer.

The visa process

The employer applies for a work permit, and the residence visa follows once you have arrived and completed the medical. The full process usually runs two to four weeks from offer to permit. You need a passport with at least six months of validity, passport photographs, and a police clearance certificate from your home country.

Costs sit with the employer. If you are being asked to fund the permit or the flight, the offer is not compliant and you should treat that as a warning about everything else in it.

What the job asks of you

The physical requirement is real: repeated lifting in the twenty to thirty kilogram range and long periods standing. Shifts commonly run eight hours with overtime on top, often starting early to avoid the afternoon heat in non-climate-controlled areas.

English is useful but rarely required. Most warehouse floors operate in a mix of Hindi, Urdu and English, and instructions are usually visual or scanner driven.

Making an application land

Keep the application simple. A one page document with your name, contact number, previous roles and availability does more than a formatted resume. Apply through several channels at once rather than waiting on any single agency, and follow up once by phone after a week.

If you are already in the country on a visit visa, walking into agency offices in person still works better than online applications for this category of role.
